Freya Noble of Spinners has been selected for the England U14 team to play in the Copenhagen Invitational Tournament (the one we are going to but a different section-national teams only). She was selected following a tough 3 day selection camp at the National Basketball Performance Centre, Belle Vue. Freya is a dynamic athlete who is an disruptive defender and very effective on the break.
On Saturday April 6 Spinners U16 Girls for 2019/20 travelled to play a friendly v Liverpool Basketball Club U16. The team was weaker than normal being made up of just two U15’s, Scarlett Lindsay (8) and Becky Smith (25), supplemented by some U14’s, Grace Elder#9, Abbie Johnson #23, Darcie Lindsay #8, Evie Matthews #4, Pauline Tyshykia #10, Zara Uwangho #33.
The team were given the full LBC treatment and announced individually to the crowd before the game.
After a slow start in which Spinners fell behind early they soon came to grips with Liverpool and by half time had pulled ahead through strong play from Scarlett Lindsay and domination of the boards by Becky Smith.
In the 3rd quarter Spinners showed what they were capable of, playing tough defence and launching their fast break at will. Grace Elder and Pauline Tyshykia ran the lanes beautifully and picked up easy baskets. as Spinners took complete control.
In the final quarter Spinners remained in comlete control and were able to give everyone plenty of court time running out easy winners 73-35.
